Syrah is originally from the Rhone district in France, also known to our friends in Australia as Shiraz. www.rhonerangers.org
All varietal wines must have 85% or more of that grape variety to be labeled by that particular varietal name.
In California if the variety of grapes used for a particular wine is less than 85% it must be labeled by blend percentage or as a "California Red Wine" or "Red Table Wine."
